You know the situation. You've mastered cp and ls, messed with grep a little. You've got to edit some text from the command line, and you're feeling a bit too hackerish to use pico. Some strange sensation washes over you, and suddenly you type:
vi
So you edit some text, and then you want to quit. And nothing works! The worst part is that even control-c is powerless to bring you back to the command line. And you're like...
How do I quit this crazy thing?
Okay, relax. All you have to do is type:
:q!
and return, and you're out. If that doesn't work, try hitting the escape key first, then typing those characters.
Pretty simple and intuitive, huh?
What? Back for more? You're probabaly wondering...
How do I do, like, useful stuff with vi?
Um... unfortunately, you're beyond the help this page provides.
Hope you had a fun visit!
